Adding a Software Deployment Tip to ITNINJA

Has anyone else tried to add Software to the Deployment Tips Page?

It will seem a big confussing if you dont get all the steps right, so here are the steps I have to take... (if someone knows a faster way, please share)

  1. Browse to Share a Deployment Tip
  2. Click "Add Software" button
  3. Fill in Company, Title, Major & Minor version, then click "Add Tag" (this seems to be where it goes into the abyss but be patient)
  4. I've tried to go to Research, and do a Keyword search for the tag I just created (no luck)
  5. Then I tried to click on the letter for the software title, and even search the Companies tab (Companies Tab is not searchable BTW - Please fix this IT NINJA)
  6. So, this is the best way I have found to get to the tags you just created... right below the alphabet, there are a few options you can check, remove all checks and just have "That I Follow" checked, then click "Update List"

So this should show you all of the software Tags that you have added, as well as all of the Software that you have chosen to follow. Once you click on one of your Tags, and add a Tip, it should then show up in the list of Deployment Tips, now you can use the search option.

  • I have tried to so this also for the plethora of 3d software we have here but gave up as I could not figure out the process. - Jbr32 10 years ago
    • This situation has been addressed: Now, if you add a tag instead of a success message you are automatically taken to the new listing in the Software Library so you can easily add your tip! - bkelly 10 years ago
  • Ok good, so I was not the only one that was scratching my head on this one? - ekgcorp 10 years ago
  • Next I need to figure out how to get a Deployment Tip approved. I'm trying to earn my Tipster badge.. but it alludes me :-) - ekgcorp 10 years ago
    • Only the first item you post needs to be approved. You should be able to post tips freely now. If you are not seeing them show up for some reason there is a problem and I'll need more info to investigate. If you see a problem, please contact me directly using the feedback link at the bottom of this page. - bkelly 10 years ago
  • Thank you for pointing this out! This is definitely something we can improve which had been overlooked. We do plan to add keyword search to the company list, and will look at the best way to improve the workflow of adding tips to new software (probably something as simple as taking you to the new software page listing once added). Please, please let us know if there is anything else we can improve to make things easier. In this case we have a suggestion attached to a helpful tip on how to deal with the problem which is great, but typically the best way to share suggestions is at https://kace.uservoice.com/forums/139919-itninja - bkelly 10 years ago
  • Here is the funny thing that i just realized today.. I never clicked to the fact that Dell KACE owns the site now.

I kept wondering why 90% of the post seem to be about KACE tips, and a small % of us still seem to be just on MSI, Scripting, Deployment post... Hehe!

I was on the original AppDeploy site and I use to use it all the time. I even have a Custom Google Search on my Blog to search software deployment tips (had to modify search when switched to ITNinja). - ekgcorp 10 years ago
    • KACE owned AppDeploy for years before ITNinja, but with the tag based approach to content the KACE stuff is much more visible. We are continuing efforts to help our "following" functionality help you focus just on the things you care about. As for your blog, what is the link? We offer RSS feeds for tag pages and even search results so that may be worth looking into as well ;-) - bkelly 10 years ago

    • Cool blog! I love the use of the Custom Google Search. Added it to our links at http://www.itninja.com/link/echo-knowledge-group-blog-packaging - bkelly 10 years ago
  • Just to close off on this: now, if you add a tag, instead of a success message you are automatically taken to the new listing in the Software Library so you can easily add your tip! - bkelly 10 years ago
