ITNinja Code Update: 08/28/13

A month has passed since our last release, so it must be that time once again! Yes, ITNinja just got that much better; here are the latest updates and enhancements…

  • New Software Summary pages have been introduced. When browsing the Software Library, you will now see a "Versions" column that indicates when there is more than one version for any given title. Clicking that number will present a page that lists all versions (along with tip and content counts).  Here you can follow the software (as opposed to a specific version). You can also reach this page using the breadcrumb navigation from any Software version listing.
  • The ambiguous "popular" Software list has been updated to reflect software titles that are trending during the last week. Our trending calculations are based on activity levels (the same is used to help dictate which tags appear on the home page’s list of trending tags).
  • Software tips have been added to the Activity Feed feature of the site along with a filter so you can focus on just such entries if desired.
  • Authors of a question may now also receive an email notification if a comment is posted directly to the question (as opposed just when answers or a comments to an answer are posted).
  • Community pages have been updated to move all unique content to an "overview" tab so that the other content tabs appear at the top of the page, making them much more accessible.
  • We've added a tagline to the site to help convey the focus of ITNinja as a software-focused community for IT Professionals (aimed at those passing through).
  • The software library filter for That I Follow was not functioning; this has been corrected.
  • Cleaned up some problems with how Google was indexing the site
  • Internally we are making progress in our efforts to help us better clean up duplicate and incorrect listings in the ITNinja Software Library. Progress has been made, but it will be another release or two before the full benefit of this work will be realized.
