Macrovision Aligns AdminStudio with ThinstallÂ’s Application Virtualization Platform, Reducing Application Management Costs for Corporate IT Departments

San Francisco and Santa Clara, Calif. 10/30/2007 - Thinstall, a leading Application Virtualization Platform Solution, and Macrovision Corporation (Nasdaq: MVSN) today announced the integration of Macrovision’s AdminStudio® product with Thinstall’s virtual application technology to make it easier for IT administrators to package applications for virtualization. Customers using the products together can benefit from an easy to use, low-cost system that simplifies packaging applications for virtual desktop management.

“The combination of Thinstall’s virtualization solution and Macrovision’s AdminStudio can help many organizations address application administration issues associated with projects," said Michael Rose, associate research analyst with IDC. "The Thinstall virtualization solution in combination with the power of Macrovision’s packaging technology benefits IT strategies for managing enterprise-wide deployment of virtual applications on Windows platforms, including Vista."

The integration enables software applications to be packaged into a “Thinstalled” single, self-contained executable (EXE) file, for immediate distribution by IT administrators. Customers using the new release of AdminStudio, version 8.6, can benefit from the integration by speeding up software migrations and deploying custom, commercial and legacy applications directly into Thinstall’s Vista-ready Virtualization Platform.

"To ease IT administrators’ transition to virtualization, Macrovision and Thinstall have created compatible solutions that provide a straightforward process for packaging and deploying applications to users over the network," said Mark Bishof, executive vice president and general manager of the Software Business Unit for Macrovision. "As a neutral packaging solution, AdminStudio provides IT managers with a proficient packaging tool for both traditional and virtual deployments.”

“Thinstall’s integration with AdminStudio helps meet the increasing demand for virtualization solutions and offers best-practice technology to a wide base of enterprise IT managers,” said Henrik Rosendahl, chief executive officer of Thinstall. “Our customers around the world are using Thinstall as a critical IT component to reduce the costs of application deployment and secure desktop management. The ability of AdminStudio to export any existing project file provides enormous speed and flexibility for legacy projects, and can jump start the roll out of IT virtualization strategies.”

Thinstall reduces the costs associated with software deployment and provides significant reductions in the time associated with regression testing, application deployment and end user support. The unique, client-less, server-less architecture allows “Thinstalled” applications to be run from any LAN, WAN, USB, or CD-Rom drive, with zero-footprint on the host PC. The applications run exclusively in user mode, ensuring seamless execution on locked-down desktops with no device drives installed, enabling administration to maintain a secure, clean and stable user desktop.

Macrovision’s AdminStudio software packaging tool is built to help IT administrators easily deploy traditional or virtual software throughout their workforce. The product includes InstallShield® 2008 as a built-in packaging editor which further eases the deployment and migration of applications to Windows Vista® and highly virtualized environments. AdminStudio is the packaging solution of choice of Microsoft, Novell, Citrix and Thinstall.
