Auditing MS Server 2012 Datacenter

Hi

We just bought 2012 DC edition, which covers all the virtuals on our three hosts. I track MS server licenses (like all the others) with KACE, but I need some way to exclude servers running on the VCentre from being counted against the indicvidual licenses for Windows Server, so those licenses can be applied to the servers in other locations.

I can't see how to do this straight off, has anyone tackled this already?

  • Answers allow me to select the machines OK, but the Licensing counts in KACE don't use these labels or reports. So the License counts just count everything, and that's my problem - Acedashdog 8 years ago

As of version K1000 Version: 6.3.xxx

You can skin this multiple ways, depending on what you want to do with this output but here is two possible ways to get that info via a report, or as a smart label that you can then do work from automatically.

Use the built-in wizard to either:

- Do a report from the K1000 that looks at devices, but filter by Server O/S and filter OUT VM devices. (Under device, there is a selection for VM machine. Use a device-type report and filter by O/S (Name) and VM device, filter IN the EXACT server O/S's you want to scan your DB in KACE for (IE: Server 2008, Server 2012, etc...), and filter OUT VM devices in the filtering area.

OR
- Create a smart label against which you want to do work against, such as set a script to run if the smart label finds device(s). It is the same theory as above option just use a device smart label instead of a device type report and filter in the server O/S, but filter out the VM devices.
