Configure Distribution Replication -- can we use DFS name space instead?

Hi
For the Distribution Replication configuration, it asks for the following:
Device
Destination Share - Local or UNC (if UNC then Credentials required)
Label
Download Share
Credentials

For the destination share, it can be a UNC, does that mean we can point it to a network share instead of on the Device itself?  Can we set up the Distribution Replication server to use a DFS-R share instead?

This is what I am thinking of doing:
1. For device, I guess I would select any server.
2. Destination share, I want to select a DFS share \\domain\toplink\patches, then I use credentials that has access to this share
I will then set up DFS-R replication for the DFS share and this way all the clients would access the patches using the same share name, but it would point to actual different servers based on the location of the client and where the DFS link points to

Has anyone does this before? and would this be possible?

Please let me know.  Thank you.

Hello,

I think that a configuration like the one you mentioned is going to work.
The destination share could be local (e.g.: D:\myfolder\myKACEShare) if the replicator and the server that hosts the replica are the same.
 Kind regards,

  • Thanks.. Right now I have configured the destination share to be local and it seems to be working. Currently I only have the DFS-R replication going to 1 other server, however later I will plan on having the DFS-R share be in about 25+ sites.. so we will see how well it handles at that time. - tuyen 8 years ago
