Dell Command Configure, Device Instance in Boot Order

I am using and LEARNING Dell Command Configure v3.  Under Boot Management> bootorder, I was wondering if anyone could tell what the "Device Instance" column is specifying.  I am assuming that when I add a device and select 0, that is the first device???  For instance I added Hard Disk and set Device Instance to 0 which is the only HDD in my system.  Also when I add any other device like Embeded NiC, I also select 0 and its the only NIC.
Should I be using 0??? or does it not matter if I only have one device???
Naturally if I had more than one device of the same I would select 0 and 1 prospectively, right???

Update: Ok so after rebooting the machine a few times and only after letting it sit (overnight) all BIOS settings on the tested OptiPlex 390 have taken, so it appears to be working now.

boot order is from top to bottom you change it by drag and dropping them in the change order column.

  • So then I would use all zero's if I only have one of each, correct? Which is the way I set it up but the settings do not take. Also, selecting on for embnic1 does NOT enable it so that it is an option for boot. All the other settings do, autoon, deep sleep, ect.
At the current time we only boot to nic manually to deploy a machine from kace in our tech room. Ill try and post the settings I have. - wessdf 9 years ago
    • if you have more then one of the type going by "description" you need to number them. You see I have multiple hdd in my unit so they are numbered I used have a hdd 0 but that is not hooked up currently - SMal.tmcc 9 years ago
      • Thanks for the reply. For some reason I have it set up like you have but cannot get it to take the order or the enabling the NIC and disabling the Floppy. I have rebooted several times. I know the exe is working because the other settings do take. - wessdf 9 years ago
