Looking for Desktop Authority alternatives

I'm not ready to jump ship yet however I am open to looking at alternative to DA for managing our desktops.  We typically use it in place of Group Policy or to augment Group Policy.  Most of our use with it revoles around windows desktop management (folder rediction, desktop shortcuts, outlook profile, etc) and not so much of software deployment.  Any thoughts?

  • Ok, most of this is my subjective opinion but... since the move to Quest then the move to Dell it just seems to me like the product isn't getting the attention is should. Support during the transistions and afterwards has not been good for me. I also find that many times I want to do something and can do part of it with DA but the rest I have to do in AD Group Policy. - MooreIT 10 years ago
  • In keeping with the "Why buy a new tool when windows does a decent job" have you recently looked into the options for user environment management that have been introduced and improved in W2k8ServerR2 Group Policy?

Have a look at Automation Studio. Combine that with Group Policy and you have something even better and at much lower price. Check http://www.fasttrackscript.com/desktopauthority

Group Policy will do just about anything you can imagin. Including folder redirections, Desktop Shortcuts, and outlook profiles. We have a VDI infastructure and are huge fans of VUEM http://www.norskale.com/ for a lot of this kind of stuff. 

For a traditional desktop setup I would look at SCCM and or Ghost Console form Symantec.
