driver application

hi,

how to deterrmine whether the application is a driver application or not without installing or opening it?

say i have 1000 application names in that i have to deterrming which is driver related which is not.

obviously i cannot install all 1000 application and check for drivers. any suggestions

without installing or opening it...??  maybe someone has a database with that info;-) like this site.

Why would you want to determine this?   Is this for Virtualization Readiness testing?

In that case you could use tools like :

1. AdminStudio:  
with the AAC (automated Application Converter) you can convert setup.exe to MSI and test for Virtualization Readiness. If you already have MSI's then this is even quicker, just load the apps in Adminstudio's TestCenter and you have direct results.

 

2. ChangeBASE (Dell):
same as above, other techniques used, currently more a tool for compatibility testing ( w7,8,2012, Office 2010,2013 , virtualization etc..)

 

3. Citrix App-DNA:
Only for compatibility testing...For repackaging/editing /remediating packages  not suitable.

By experience (own and others), application name , Package DB (ITNinja).......... but not 100%

if we're talking msi files, you could theoretically open the MSI database using VBS, and look into the File table for .inf and/or .cat files

But this only covers one type of installer...
