How do you add software to a Windows 7 deployment?

I am trying to add software to my unattended scripted install.

You can add installs to run during the post tasks or add a line to run once area to install after reboot during post install.  If you have a k1000 also, install the cleint as a post task and have the k1000 push MI's run after the k2000 is done with it's part, less load on the k2000 that way.

  • we have many programs installed so we went to installing and configuring it all prior (shut off updates and any other custom tweeks we wanted. then sysprep, copy user to default and then deploy that sysprep image

Research USMT scanstate and loadstate. Download the Windows AIK toolkit. Also research Windows System Image Manager and Diskpart tools.

  • what does that have to do with installing software post scripted image? please give more detail - SMal.tmcc 11 years ago
  • If this is what you are looking for: Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) is a command-line tool used to service Windows® images offline before deployment. You can use it to install, uninstall, configure, and update Windows features, packages, drivers, and international settings. Subsets of the DISM servicing commands are also available for servicing a running operating system.

If not, then this should help: Windows System Image Manager (Windows SIM) is the tool used to create unattended Windows Setup answer files. You can create an answer file by using information from a Windows image (.wim) file and a catalog (.clg) file. Component settings are added to an appropriate configuration pass in the answer file. You can also add packages to be installed during Windows Setup. The following topics describe conceptual information about Windows SIM.

If not, you need to be more specific about what you are trying to accomplish. - jpsmx 11 years ago
    • Yes these will work for modifying WIM's but he is referring to a Scripted install. A scripted install uses the uploaded install disk to create the deployment. He could modify the install.wim and create a new source cd and upload it (a real pain and eats disk space), but then that software will always be in the deployment. what happens when he wants to deploy another image and not have that installed or it gets superseded? Also it does not work with 3rd party software very well - SMal.tmcc 11 years ago

What are you currently using to build your unattended installs?
Microsoft has MDT 2012 and/or SCCM 2012 that can assist with scripted deployments.

I currently use SCCM 2012. I use a task sequence to deploy updates after the Windows image has been applied.  After the updates step, I have a cluster of 'steps' that install the software I selected when I built the task sequence.  MDT also supports the use of task seqences to perform these actions.
