Installing MSIs with system account
I have been having some problems with certain MSIs when installed as system and not a local user/administrator account. I have been beating my head for awhile now with the latest version of QuickTime. Here is a couple of the senerios I have tried:
Run the extracted Quicktimeinstaller.exe with the proper switches. This works well running the installer with the system account as long as the logged in user is a member of the administrators group. If the logged in user is a member of the users group it fails partway through the install with the error 1628: Failed to Complete Installation.
My preferred method is to use the extracted MSIs and chain the ISScript and the Quicktime MSI. This method will deploy with a user logged in but things like Start Menu shortcuts do not get created nor does an entry get created in the Add/Remove Programs menu. You can launch the program by the executable and it appears to work but there is no way to get it to uninstall even if you run uninstall on the msi. The only way to remove it is to run the original exe and let the program do its thing.
Anyone successfully deployed Quicktime without a snapshot or repackaging in a Zenworks 6.5 or sms 2003 environment? The majority of MSIs don't seem to have these types of problems I have been encountering with this one.

Have you worked through the information in the Package KnowledgeBase for QuickTime ?

Yes, I did. I tried two different methods.
The first was using the second setup that gets extracted when you run the first setup and using the standard switches. This method errors out with a "Install did not complete successfully" message. This method will work successfully if the local logged in user is a member of the administrators group.
The second method was to get the extracted MSI's and install one after the other. This method appears to install successfully but shortcuts don't get created and there is no entry in the add remove programs to remove the application.
I believe that both methods are failing because installing an application using Zenworks 6.5 the install is run using a true system account which has no local profile. I'm thinking that it may have to do with custom actions looking for a local profile.
