Interesting DNS problem
We recently migrated from a virtual Windows Server 2008 R2 Domain controller to a physical Windows Server 2012 DC. DNS was running on the old DC, and it is currently running on our new DC. An interesting problem has cropped up with just one Host entry. We can go in as many times as we like and manually set the address for the host (it's a static IP address on a server). At an unusual interval it will decide to revert back to an old address on the DNS side. Double checking the server I find that there's only one interface, and it is configured with a static IP address (manual settings). What could be causing the DNS entry to be overwritten? How would this happen to one entry of >500 entries that we have? Any insight or places to start would be appreciated. Thank you!

Have you tried flushing DNS on that server?
Do you have DNS logging enabled, you should be sble to use that to see what mac is updating the DNS table.

So I found the culprit. It would seem that the old DC is still online, just not a primary DC anymore. On the old DC is the DHCP server. There was a DHCP lease out for our WSUS server that was causing the DNS entry to keep switching back to an old IP address roughly every hour. Deleting the Lease and creating a correct reservation for the current IP did the trick. Today this item is ticket free :)
