Is there a simple way to manage application settings for third party web browsers like Firefox, Chrome or Opera?
I manage the network for a good size school district. We depend on Group Policy in our Windows 2008 based network to manage the settings for Windows 7 and Internet Explorer. Up until this past summer, we only gave our users access to IE because it is the only browser that we know of that Group Policy can manage. Now things have changed because we are using some browser based cloud applications that demand web browsers other than IE. This is forcing us to find some sort of solution to manage and possibly lock down the setting values for these applications. What solutions are other organizations using? We are a school district so we don't exactly have tons of money but we would be open to a commercial solution if that is our only alternative. Thanks in advance.

you can use ADMX templates to do the trick.
For Firefox: http://sourceforge.net/projects/firefoxadmx/

I couldnt find a free one for opera, but i company called policypak offers a solution (also other software) http://www.policypak.com/products/manage-opera-using-group-policy-policypak.html

I saw the reference to PolicyPak. I have used their product for almost two years now and I feel about it the same way I do VMware, it just works! We have over two dozen GPOs and each one manages the configuration settings for a different third party application, including Firefox and Opera. Do what we did and try the trial mode for free. I don't really know the true cost of their licensing. They have a trial mode that works for free for any desktop in your network that has the word "computer" integrated in it or a community mode that gives you the ability to manage 25 registry settings for free.
