I tried with below Registry entry in Win XP. Its working fine.

Added DWORD entry "DisableMaintenance =1" under "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\<Version>\".

I am not sure... but what is the purpose to do it?
I think the correct answer for your question is: Depends...

Each environment is different... and the admin must know what is doing/making and what is the purpose of the environment changes...

I worked in customers, they prevented the repair option and other environment the users were admin local that had options to do everything they wanted.

Just have your install store the Hidemenu.js in Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\Javascripts and when users launch adobe it will hide the requested menus.

I try using the j script youve mentioned, and it works great in Windows XP.

Yes there is a JRE Installed in the Vista machine. I check it many times and I discovered that there's a three (3) seconds interval to disable the Repair Adobe Reader Installation. Like when you launch the shortcut then click the 'Help' Tab within less than 3 seconds the 'Repair Adobe ...' is still there. But when you click the Help Tab after 3 seconds, it will not show. Is there a better way to hide the 'Repair Adobe ...' without waiting for 3 seconds?

Have you run any of the current installers which use Java (Oracle is a good example)? I could sketch the UI with a blunt crayon faster than the JRE takes to draw its screens...

so that means that it is a natural behavior in Vista?
And I havent run any of the current installers which use Java.

I mentioned other Java apps merely to point out that Java is slow. It has no relevance to the Adobe issue.

As I mentioned, without re-writing the Java engine, no.

Reading through the Acrobat_Enterprise_Administration.pdf on page 64 it seems that this option can be removed using a registry key.  The only problem is I can't get it to work using Acrobat X following the Adobe instructions. The instructions aren't as clear as they should be and they don't seem to follow the standard laid out in the rest of the document, ie. "<Version>" / "Version", and using numbered steps with concise instructions.

Acrobat Standard and Reader users can run repair from the help menu on Vista and above. If a
reboot is required, the Citrix server hosting the application will be restarted. To prevent this
problem, administrators need to create a string registry entry named Disable_Repair under
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\Version\Installer=”true”.
