Kace 2000 and Dell XPS13

Hi Guys

I am trying to build a DEll XPS 13 laptop with the K2000 system.

The laptop does not have an internal nic , so I am using a Trulink USB NIC.

I have got the driver for the nic (sys) and dropped it into the KBE boot environment.

Ive rechaced the drivers for this environment and recreated a new KBE boot environment,

I then created a boot USB using the options from the K2000

The USB boot find and loads up the Dell Kace splash screen , but fails over when it can't get an ip address.

In fact , I dont get anything for the ip address  , just blank , which makes me think that it can't see the USB nic.

There are no active nic lights on the USB nic.

Is there away to see if the drive is loading witin the KBE ?

Has any one else built an XPS 13 via K2000 ?

This is a winpe environment, on the main menu open a command window (recovery, command prompt) and follow the info in the links I provided to test your nic and also you can manually load the drivers thru there to see if it works

  • When you get the correct drivers, manually upload to the k2000
Do a \\ikbox\peinst and place them in either
    \\ikbox\peinst\drivers\kbe_windows_x64\kace
    or
    \\ikbox\peinst\drivers\kbe_windows_x86\kace
then create a new boot environment - SMal.tmcc 11 years ago

Ok , thanks for that.

1 problem - after the Kace BE boots , its running on the X: drive.

I can't see any drive letter for the UPS drive

  • I plug in the USB after I am booted in the winpe and watch for the lights to flash and stop then go to e: or f: and I find it in one of the two letters - SMal.tmcc 11 years ago
  • I needed to flash the bios to version A06 (was A04) ...then I could access the USB drive in winpe - FergieMan 11 years ago

  • please share how you got this working! I have an XPS 13 with the same Trulink adapter, but I can't find any drivers suitable for adding to my WIN PE environment so it can get online in win pe, typically these are packaged in a CAB file, but I can't find them - davidfriend 11 years ago

We have several XPS 13 laptops in our environment now. I cannot stress to use the USB ethernet Dell recommends, the Startech Model: USB21000S2. With that we have had flawless PXE booting... until the last BIOS update. You will need to downgrade one version to get it working.

The issue we found the need to downgrade for was that it boots into PXE, past ......... screen to where it starts to boot with text and hangs.

You will still need to rebuild your KBE for the startech driver.
