Mac Agents stop checking in
I have a long ongoing problem with Mac AMP connections disappearing. At first, I believed was due to Macs going to sleep and not rebooting (this contributes to the issue, but not entirely the reason)
This is a problem as Macs drop out of inventory after 30 days as MIA, I lose the license inventory and patching compliance.
Agent version 5.1.31311 Mac OS 10.5 & 10.6
I'd would love some method to be able to 'kick start' the AMP service on Macs where it has gone dead.
Running Agent provisioning does not seem to repair the dead agents either.
The only reliable solution we've found is to reinstall the agent, but with machines spread geographically between 5 offices, it is not practical.

To restart the AMP service:
sudo SystemStarter stop KBOXAgent
sudo SystemStarter start KBOXAgent
To force check in:
sudo /Library/KBOXAgent/Home/bin/runkbot 2 0
There is a newer agent version, you might try installing that on a system and see if it resolves your checks in issue: http://www.kace.com/support/customer/releases.php
If it's still not working, enable debug and zip up the contents of /var/kace then open up a support ticket.

Apple Remote Desktop, VNC or other remote methods have to be used if there's no AMP connection. Otherwise kick-starting AMP would have to be done at the computer in Terminal.

We are having the same problem and we are running the current agent version. We have even tried turning the MACS off from going to sleep and that doesn't seem to work either.

I have a bash script and plist file that monitors the agent every 120 seconds. If the agent is not running, it kick starts the process, logging this activity.
