Patching Report - SQL Statement Needed using Smart Label for Patches against schedules and machine smart label

KACE 1000 version 6.4.120822

Maybe I'm doing this wrong and there's a better way.  If so I'm interested.

I'm currently using a smart label when patching a group of servers to filter patches by the OS and up to a certain date.  This allows a test servers group to be patched with everything up to a certain date and the smart label is applied against the schedules for the production servers, so they get the same 'tested/approved' patches.

When a schedule is created the machines patches are determined by the smart label.  After patching I'd like to get 2 reports, one that shows compliance of the servers in the schedule to the patches that were applied to them in the last deployment.  Essentially a True/False next to each server in the targeted schedule with whether it got all the patches or not from the Smart Label.

The other report I'd like to get is a list of all the nonpatched patches in the smart label with a list of the servers missing the patch.  I want to filter the search against machines by matching the OS to the smart label or by using machine smart label that is filtering out by OS.

I've dug through the site and seen how to call a label name against machines in a report but am not having any luck with finding hot to build a report that limits the patches listed by the patching smart label.

TIA,
Tim

  • It would be easier to limit the report by schedule. Is your schedule only configured for the patch label or does it include multiple labels and you only want a report on some of the patches being applied? - chucksteel 6 years ago
    • We have been separating the schedule by OS on the machine. When all were grouped together 2008 and 2012 servers the detect/deploy seemed to take longer, so the schedules of detect/deploy were broken apart by OS. Looking at a scheduled group of servers via the smart label used for patching (OS and date limited) will allow us to know that granular group of servers, but it would be nice to also be able to apply the smart label for patching to all of the servers in an OS for a larger overview of how successful a patching of dev/production servers event was. Mainly my department is asked how patched are we and I'd like to do report on our actual scheduled patching efforts and not what KACE says is currently all available patches, which could include ones we've not approved or can't due to application testing issues.

I don't have access to the tables inside the KACE MySQL DB in my environment and have little SQL Query experience. I've perused the builtin reports and am just not seeing how to get the report to limit the patches in it by the patching smart label. - Tim_Lawhead 6 years ago
  • Found this link https://docadmin.quest.com/KACE-SMA/6.4/Administrator-Guide/appendixes/database-table-names?ParentProduct=1352 It shows all the 6.4 Database Table Names. Still not quite sure where a Patching Smart Label hides. Trying to do a Select * From "Insert Possible Table Name Here" but not having luck yet finding the created Patching Smart Labels. My work is about to move to 7.2 in a couple of weeks, but not sure if the reporting from 6.4 to 7.2 makes this any easier or not. 7.1 Link - https://docadmin.quest.com/kace-systems-management-appliance/7.1/administrator-guide/appendixes/database-table-names - Tim_Lawhead 6 years ago
