Remove software installers from patch catalog

My company has recently begun the configuration of our K1100 and I've made a mistake in selecting software installers from the application types under patching subscriptions. I now wish to remove software installers from the patch catalog so they are no longer considered as missing on our machines after a detect job is run. We've already deleted the downloaded patch files but the references for the software installers still exist in the patch catalog and all of our machines still report them as missing. Does anyone know of a way to remove them from the catalog or prevent them from being detected as missing on the client machines? Our server version is: 6.3.113398 and agent version: 6.3.314. Would appreciate any advice you can give me. Thank you so much.

If you go to your security area, and into Patch subscriptions, under Application patches click the edit pencil next to Types. In the displayed pop up, un-select the software installers option.Next I would suggest that you delete all the patch files in your catalogue and force a fresh download, which should not have any software installers included.

  • Hi Hobbsy,

Thanks for your help. I have been able to perform those steps. The software installers are no longer subscribed to and neither are they downloaded. The issue now is that the catalog still has reference to the software installers. The issue this creates is that the client machines still report the software installers as missing. Do you know of any way to correct this? - wkirkland83 9 years ago
    • When you do a detect, split your patches into smart labels and exclude the software installers in the smart labels. Then the detect will not pick up the installers as missing - Hobbsy 9 years ago
      • Hi Hobbsy,

Thank you. I've done this last week with a label on the detect job that excludes software installers and detect jobs have run since then but the software installers are still listed as missing under client machines. I think they will remain there until they are cleared out somehow. Subsequent detect jobs don't seem to clear out what has previously been registered as missing. - wkirkland83 9 years ago

I understand the issue, it may seem a bit of a heavy handed approach,  but for one of those machines showing as waiting for Software Installers, try deleting the inventory record.

Go into the Inventory of the machine, hit the button to force check in and then exit inventory, select and delete.

See if that clears the patch record out and then try scanning again with the smart label option.

  • Hi Hobbsy,

This is great. That cleared out the software installers from being considered missing against the machine that I deleted from inventory. When it rejoined inventory, the software installers were no longer listed as missing. Now, if only I can find out how to clear out the listing from the catalog itself. Thanks again. - wkirkland83 9 years ago
