Scripted Install: XP License Key for Lenovo's

I am hung up with trying to figure out what to do in regards to fully automating windows xp installation. The OEM Windows XP Pro installation image requires a product key. I know with manufacturer specific cd's they don't prompt for cd keys, but lenovo's recovery cd's are not the standard windows installation cd image, like an OEM.

What should I do... legally, besides having a MAK license key for ~200 computers that already have OEM licenses.

You could try adding the oem keys to either an area in the bios(you can do this with Dells, do not know about Lenovo's) and query it or create a DB file with the macs and oem licenses.  You could then cast an image and create a post task that reads this oem code and sets it as the license key.

  • That sounds pretty complicated, there isn't a better way? - bostoneo 11 years ago
  • To be legal the easy way, either hand enter each one or go with MAK license. Hopefully someelse will have been there done that, and have a better way. - SMal.tmcc 11 years ago
