Windows 8 Tiles

I've managed to create a Start Layout for our windows 8 machines using the powershell command to export the StartLayout and then import it back to the default profile so all users logging on for the first time get the customised default Start Layout.

The trouble is, once they've logged in it appears the Start Layout becomes "their's" and totally unmanageable from a deployment point of view.

However, we are now getting asked more and more as we deploy applications for tiles to be created automatically, as opposed to the users having to click on the little down arrow and search around for the new apps.

Is there any way we can start creating tiles for users that already have profiles on the machines ?

Did you have a look at this article?

-Are you using some deployment system?

  • Thanks for the reply. I did take a look at that page earlier, haven't tried the oblytile utlity but maybe give that a try in the first instance. The group policy one looks like absolute hell to try and push through in a corporate environment where typically Group Policies are tightly controlled, sceptical about the reliability of it as well. Anyone tried these solutions ? - Jon_Kidd 8 years ago
    • Well the obytile works nicely....for the context of the user it is run under. I suppose I could create active setup keys for each application so that each user runs the oblytile command line when they log in, looks like a right pain though. - Jon_Kidd 8 years ago
      • Perhaps you can write a blog about it here to explain others.
