Language problem:

For Europe the Acrobat install is in Danish (because that's the most frequently used language over here ;-))
To solve the problem with the languages it's important to know how Adobe handles different languages; Adobe uses transforms for the different languages.
These transforms are stored in the setup.exe (to make things simple) and extracted at runtime. To obtain the transforms you can just start your setup.exe and select the desired language on a machine and look in the temp-directory. There you'll find a transform for your language (for example: 1043.mst for dutch). Just take this transform and use it with your MSI.
This step can be skipped if you're having no problems with the language.

Note
This is a complex solution to something people have had trouble with. Have successfully distributed the package using SMS with a combination of command lines with switches, MST files, REGINI command and simple batch files:

1. Create a MST file using the Custom Installation Wizard in the W2K Resource Kit and copy it to your Distribution Server lcoation
2. Using SMS Installer, you will need to capture the Registry key which includes your Registration information. The key is located in HKLM\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Acrobat\6.0\Registration. Export this key as you will need it later and convert it into an INI file so the REGINI process can inject the key
3. Logged in under a User context, make new shortcuts for Adobe Standard and Distiller directly from the EXE files in the Program Files folders. Save these files to your Distribution Server location
4. Copy the entire contents of the Adobe CD to your Distribution Server location
5. Create a batch file which deletes the shortcuts the original installation creates and copies the shortcuts you have just created to whatever place you use as a standard. Copy this file to your Distribution Server location
6. Create the installation batch file. There will be 3 lines in the batch file:
1. Command line to install the software setup.exe /s /w /v"ISX_SERIALNUMBER=<your valid Acrobat serial number> TRANSFORMS=\"<
full path to your transform file>.mst\" /qn"
Make sure you follow this to the letter including the odd backslashes after the Transforms command.
2. You need knowledge of using REGINI to inject the key you captured before. The command line is \\regini.exe <path to INI file>
There are strict guidlines to the format of the INI file which I won''t cover here but am happy to provide if you wish
3. Run the batch file you created to remove and re-add the shortcuts

Ensure your package is set to to allow SMS to restart the PC once it has finished.

Note
[[Note: From AppDeploy.com - this Adobe 6 is provided as an MSI from the vendor. It is not recommended that MSI packages be repackaged.]]

After several days of testing a deployment method for Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard via GPO (without System Management Server - SMS) I managed to
deploy Acrobat. I used these steps (all with Windows 2000 clients):

1. Setup a new client via RIS
2. Install Office 2000 (because Adobe installs office toolbars only if office is present). Actually I did deploy Office with the GPO.
3. Install "installrite" from epsilonsquared (Freeware Tool):
http://www.epsilonsquared.com/installrite.htm
4. Make a Before snapshot with installrite
5. Installation of Adobe Acrobat 6.0 (no reboot).
6. Adjust the Installation the way you want (shortcuts, ...)
7. Do the after-snapshot with installrite
8. Review the package. I deleted all files that were recorded under c:\documents and savings\%username% and some obvious non relevant registry keys.
9. Build the installation kit with installrite. Enable silent installation and prevent the kit from restarting the pc. Installrite will build one big exe-File (not an msi-file like Wininstall LE from Veritas) with approx. 100 MB. This is the installation file.
10. I created another installation kit for the uninstallation procedure (install adobe, before snapshot, uninstall adobe without reboot, after-snapshot).
11. Create one msi-wrapper for the two .exe-Installation-Files (One exe-file for the installation, one exe-file for the uninstallation) with the Windows Installer Wrapper Wizard WIWW (also freeware):
http://sywan.nl/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=18
(Hint: You have to put the msi-wrapper and the two exe files in the same network share. For the installation path you can simply fill in the name of the exe-file, e.g. acrobat-install.exe. For the uninstallation path you have to fill in the complete path, e.g. \\server\folder\acrobat-uninstall.exe)
12. Deploy the msi with your GPO.

Attention: On the first reboot after deployment, Acrobat will be installed. You can open the Acrobat Standard without problems. But the required pdf-printer for the distiller will not be available until the second restart (!!!!!). So don't be concerned when the pdf-printer is
missing after the first boot.

This was hard work and I really hope, Adobe will simplify deployment with GPO in the future.

I hope this may help,
Bob

Note

For non US people using the InstallShield Tuner 6.0 for Adobe Acrobat, you will find that this will not work correctly. To make InstallShield Tuner work correctly change your regional settings to English (United States).

Note
Localized Versions

InstallShield Tuner 6.0 does not seem to be aware of localized versions of Acrobat 6.0. Using an installation CD with English, French and German language support always installs in default language - English! I read about similar problems with scandinavian versions always installing in Danish default.

Using the following command line to install Acrobat might help with this problem:

setup.exe /L1031 /v"/qb- TRANSFORMS=YourMST.mst ISX_SERIALNUMBER=YourSerialNumber"

Replace 1031 with your desired language id (here is a listing).

Note
Deploying "Acrobat 6.0.2 Standard" using Active Directory

1. Copy "Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard" from the Acrobat 6.0 CD (E:) to the hard disk (D:)

2. Open AcroStan.msi with Orca and in the Custom Actions table, delete the row
UnSupportedInstallType

3. Create an administrative installation point to a network drive (X:)
msiexec.exe /a "D:\Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard\acrostan.msi"

4. Download update 6.0.1 and extract Ac60BaP1.msp to the hard disk and run
msiexec.exe /p D:\Ac60BaP1.msp /a X:\AcroStan.msi /qb /lv* D:\Ac60BaP1.log

5. Copy X:\AcroStan.msi to X:\Custom.msi

6. Open X:\Custom.msi with Orca and in the Custom Actions table, delete the row
CA_QV : [ISX_SERIALNUMBER] error.

7. Open X:\Custom.msi with WinINSTALL LE 2003 and change the registry values
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\6.0\Registration\SERIAL
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Distiller\6.0\Registration\SERIAL
from [ISX_SERIAL] to xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (get this number from a manual install)

8. (Optional) In WinINSTALL LE 2003 remove initial registration request
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\6.0\Registration
PRODREG=dword:1701340777 (Decimal)
and remove unwanted shortcuts

9. Create a transform of the changes you have made
msitran -g X:\AcroStan.msi X:\Custom.msi X:\AcroStan.mst

10. Test your installation of 6.0.1
msiexec /i X:\AcroStan.msi transforms=X:\AcroStan.mst /passive

11. Download update 6.0.2 and extract "Adobe Acrobat - Reader 6.0.2 Update.msi"

12. Add both AcroStan.msi with AcroStan.mst and the Update.msi to GPO

* Orca and MsiTran are part of the Microsoft Platfrom SDK
* WinINSTALL LE 2003 can be found on the Windows 2003 Server CD

Security
In order for Acrobat 6.x to run correctly for unprivileged users, you must allow the general users (e.g. the BUILTIN\Users group) change/write privileges to the following directories:

These Registry keys need their permissions opened up:
HKCR\AFormAut.App
HKCR\AFormAut.App.1
HKCR\CLSID\{7CD069A1-50AA-11D1-B8F0-00A0C9259304}
HKCR\TypeLib\{7CD06992-50AA-11D1-B8F0-00A0C9259304}\1.0
HKCR\TypeLib\{78165D71-DF28-11D3-9A89-005004A56D53}\1.0
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Distiller\5.0\PrinterJobControl
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Applications\Winword.exe

These directories need their permissions opened:
\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 5.0\Distillr\Settings
\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 5.0\Distillr\Tmp
\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Color
\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\TypeSpt
\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Web
\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3

And, by the way, the program should generate the following files itself upon opening. Make sure you change the permissions on their folders (or the files themselves) before you run Acrobat as a local administrator, otherwise the general users won't be able to overwrite them as needed:
\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\ColorACECache.lst
\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\TypeSptAdobeFnt.lst

Special notes concerning deploying the Acrobat .msi's via Altiris:

I had not had any problems deploying the Acrobat 6 products via Active Directory/Group Policy using the information others have provided here.

Then when I had to deploy them via Altiris, I ran into vague error messages and failure. I have not been able to verify the cause, but I suspect it has to do with the .mst file that the InstallShield Tuner creates. Here is how I finally got them to work properly with Altiris.

1. Used Wise Package Studio (instead of the InstallShield Tuner) to create the initial transform (.mst) for Acrobat.

2. THEN modified the .mst using the InstallShield Tuner

3. Modified the UnsupportedInstallType in the Custom Actions table of the .msi as has been documented above.

Note
The same problem occurs for Adobe Acrobat Professional 7.x as well.

Solution :-

1) The solution for this problem is to comment out the Custom actions CA_UIV and CA_QV. Both of these custom actions are present in User Interface and Execute Immediate.

2) Still if it doesn't works then you need to write VBScript or WiseScript to stop the spooler service first, then add registration serial key and then again tart the spooler service.
