Altiris automates management of growing industry-standard server market with natively integrated solutions that reduce the cost and complexity of optimizing server security and availability

Altiris, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATRS), a pioneer of IT lifecycle management solutions that reduce the total cost of owning IT resources, today announced the new Altiris® Server Management Suite™ 6.0 to set the standard for price-value and time-to-value, heterogeneous server management. Server Management Suite automates management of initial deployment and provisioning, inventory discovery and reporting, performance and availability monitoring, and patch management. This new release adds additional security features and further consolidates management capabilities from a single console to decrease the cost and complexity of managing diverse server environments.

With this release, Altiris delivers a price-value leading suite of solutions to help improve system availability and reliability, monitor performance, restore operations and mitigate security vulnerabilities. New Server Management Suite 6.0 features include:

Improved support for Windows and Linux bare-metal server deployment in addition to customized deployment and management of HP, Dell and Fujitsu Siemens Computers server blades to optimize hardware investments Improved patch management automates patch analysis, dependency checking and targeting to help create highly secure server environments; integration with patented Altiris recovery technology provides rapid recovery from software conflicts and failures Extended monitoring support for Sun and Red Hat platforms help ensure high availability

The suite is built on the new Altiris 6 architecture to simplify and secure comprehensive server management through a new task-based interface, new role and scope-based security, and efficient shortcuts to the most common tasks. The new Altiris architecture also provides more efficient data processing for added enterprise scalability and on-the-fly language localization for the console, server and agent.

Altiris today also announced the new Altiris Management Suite for Dell Servers. The Altiris suite provides integrated management software to optimize server deployment, monitoring, and OS patch management. The suite enables IT staff to automate hardware lifecycle tasks that were previously very labor intensive. Altiris provides customers of all sizes with scalable management solutions to help minimize server downtime and improve server build consistency and reliability. The new suite is an extension of the Altiris and Dell alliance to integrate solutions that deliver improved solutions for enterprise systems management.

IT organizations can benefit from significant cost savings through native integration and automation of standard server management processes.

Utilizing an open, integrated platform, Altiris solutions deliver integrated tools to help decrease implementation and training costs. Once in place, Altiris policy-based management automatically ensures tasks occur consistently across managed systems.

According to Gartner research, “2003 was an outstanding year for server provisioning and configuration management tools and suppliers. Large enterprises realized the need for these automation tools and budgeted for them to aid in efficiency and drive out security exposure. We expect this trend to continue.”*

Poul Nielsen, Altiris VP of marketing and product strategy, said, “Our goal is to be the price-value and time-to-value leader for heterogeneous server management. Starting at just $253 per managed server, regardless of server operating system, we believe Altiris Server Management Suite is priced to accommodate the growing industry-standard server market. Because our customers have server computing requirements in many forms and applications, we have built Altiris server management to accommodate their heterogeneity. The breadth, depth, and especially the native integration of our management capabilities for Windows, Linux, blade servers, etc., further distinguishes us from the competition.”

Altiris Server Management Suite offers natively integrated solutions for bare-metal imaging, deployment, and configuration; comprehensive hardware and software inventory; software management including application packaging, policy-based software delivery, security assessment and patch management; availability and performance monitoring with historic, real-time data, and aggregate uptime and trend reporting; real-time diagnosis and remediation through patented snapshot, rollback, network backup and off-site replication.
