Adobe Reader 5.0 Silent install Help needed

I've racked my brain for a couple of days and was hoping some others might have a solution.

We have a need for Adobe Reader 5.0 company wide, around 300 pcs.

Is there a way to push this through KACE as a silent install from comand line or bundle it up in a MSI?

The file is an .exe .

Thanks.

Dear god, 5??  Your company must be decades behind technologically...

Maybe look here: http://www.itninja.com/software/adobe/reader-6/5-2571

  • I saw that page. Thanks btw.

But where does the ABCPY.INI live? All i have to start with is the install .exe and the enterprise tool does not recognize it. - jharrell 10 years ago
    • Sorry but I can't help you, I've been in IT for 10 years now and 5 was before my time... - nheyne 10 years ago
    • If i am not mistaken the first time you have to create the ini file yourself.

The Adobe Reader Administration Guide gives a lot of great details such as this and more.

I think the earlier versions of Adobe like version 5 were not MSI and for that you can capture them and convert them to msi.

  • There must be some sort of compatibility issue that requires 5, otherwise I would agree. - nheyne 10 years ago
  • Yes, some old home grown software was built on 5 and never fixed.

But we got it figured out. When you run the setup for 5, like 11 and 10, it loads all the needed stetup and ini files into the temp.

Just alter the abcpy.ini , zip it up, and deployed it like a champ.

Thanks folks. - jharrell 10 years ago
    • Glad you got it working. - nheyne 10 years ago
