Aginity Workbench for Netezza v4.3 Extracted msi prompts

Hello everyone Thank you for all your help.

So I am working on Aginity Workbench for Netezza v4.3 Extracted msi file, and having some issues I will list them below. the main reason I come to you guys is because I could not any information off of google.

1. I can not get the msi to launch, when it does launch it quickly closes without loading anything.

2. I also need to suppress the update prompt, looking all throughout the msi, but still could not find anything.

that's all I can think of right now. if anyone has a list of command I can use ether with the exe or non msi that may work on Aginity Workbench for Netezza v4.3.

thank you! :)

  • I'm trying to package and deploy this very application, although a slightly newer version (4.8). Didn't have any success with the MSI, so I used the EXE as recommended by some online documentation (https://support.aginity.com/hc/en-us/articles/214809758-Silent-Install-or-Logging-Install) and got that to work.

However, when I deploy via SCCM, the install will only work if I install for User and not System, and the user has to be an admin on the target computer. Otherwise, the install fails.

Haven't tried repackaging the application yet, but might try that just for fun to see what happens. - RonW 7 years ago

Humm, its a bit of a weird one, let me look into it some more.

The exe and msi extraction is a bit confusing.

If you do a AginityNetezzaWorkbenchSetupx86.exe /s
it will silently install.

Though you should be able to use the MSI, just need to work out what PROPERTIES it is being passed. But before you work on that, use ProcMon to watch the installer, I think the extracted exe lays down some files and not the msi - its really weird/non standard. If that the case, you be best to use the /s with the exe.

Comments:
  • Had a good look for 45 mins. I suggest you just use the /s to install the software.

    Notes:
When it extracts the exe, it unpacks to %temp%, there is a offline folder and mia.lib file. It looks like the exe copys the files from the offline folder into the Program Files when installing - after install the folder is empty.

Note sure what the MSI is doing as there is not much in there, files wise. When its run, its run as a ARPSYSTEMCOMPONENT=1 this means its hidden in the Programs and Feats.

So to recap, use the exe installer with the /s - rileyz 8 years ago

Hi,
could you post the msi log when you attempt to install the msi via the command line?
If what rileyz is correct with the mia.lib file, that looks as though it's an "Advanced Installer" created installation, and you can do weird and wonderful (sic) things with that... It may also just be a MSI wrapper around something built "in-house" just to make some other happy that requires an MSI install...
