APP-V GIMP2.8.6, Error Opening EPS Files

Hello,

sequenced gimp2.8.6 on W2K3Server SP2 and XP SP3. All worked fine, only EPS import crashes the APP 'file-ps.exe Error in Application, Plugin is crashed'.

App-Name: file-ps.exe AppVer: 2.8.6.0 ModName: libgs-8.dll

Nearly same problems are reported with x64 versions, but we are on x32 systems.

App-V Sequencer Version 4.6.2 24020

You will need to install Ghostscript first and set an environmental variable. Download from here: http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/

To get ghostscript to work with the GIMP in Windows XP, you need to create the environment variable GS_PROG. Right click on My Computer. Select Properties. Click on the Advanced Tab, then on the button labeled Environment Variables. Then click New. In the field Variable Name, enter GS_PROG. In the field Variable Value, enter the path to GS. On my system it is "C:\Program Files\gs\gs8.54\bin\gswin32.exe" Restart the GIMP.

Hello,

thanks for the advice, but since gimp2.8.2 gimp has the needed gs dll's integrated. See here: http://www.gimpusers.com/forums/gimp-user/15141-gimp-2-8-2-eps-support

I think its not the solution to install Ghostscript first.

  • ok but do you test run the app during sequencing and try opening an EPS file, probably the dll file is getting registered and you are skipping this during the capture process. You can also register the dll file whilst sequencing using the regsvr32 command. - mattski 10 years ago

Hello,

the problem is solved by downgrading to version 2.8.0. Version 2.8.6 seems to have a gerneral problem to import eps-files (32bit verison with XP SP3 or Server 2003 SP2, oher versions not testet).

thanks
