AppDeploy Repackager crashes (Windows 10 1909 clean install)

Hello. I'm trying to run AppDeploy 1.2 to repackage a legacy software install into an MSI. The software is known to work on Windows 10. When running AppDeploy, I work though the process of doing the first snapshot. When I try to run the Setup.exe from the wizard, AppDeploy crashes. So I start over. I go through the process clean (revert to VM snapshot), while running setup.exe manually. In the post install snapshot, I get to Package Content Review before AppDeploy freezes. It goes "Not responding" and has to be closed manually. Event logs don't seem to provide any helpful info. Could someone help me out?

The AppDeploy  repackager is pretty old! I would try on a early version of Windows 10 or or Windows 8 and give that a shot.

Im presuming your using this because you dont have a licence for InstallShield.

You could try this (very very very very very very very very very very very) old version of InstallShield. Its a link from a TechNet article, but knowing Flexera...nothing is free. Anyway here ya go!

  • Is there no plan to update AppDeploy for modern Windows 10? I would like to stay with something that is known to be valid, especially now that we are rolling out Win10 1909 to all of our computers.

I did get a positive result from a trial repackager software. We may have to go the paid route, and that's OK. - jdarbor 4 years ago
