Application installs to wrong location
I am working on a application it is a vendor msi,When installing on Xp Machine it installs to C:\Program Files.But when i install on Win7 32 bit machine it is installing to C:\Program Data.The INSTALLDIR is C:\Program Files,I tried creating a response transform and changing the path , when installing the msi with transform it still takes the path as c:\Program Data.
Can please someone suggest ideas on how to make it to install to C:\Program Files.

If this is the case then you can create verbose logfile for the installation on both platform and compare it..
Some programs install to both area's on windows 7, does the program work ok?

Yes it works fine.Just as a standerd want to install the application C:\Program files.

This is from another software people complained and this was the vendors response:
The reason for the change is that the auto-update, to work, need to find the program in a location that is not program files, where special permissions are necessary to update files and folders.
Google Chrome uses App Data, we chose Program Data because then the installation is for "all users", on the computer.
also I found comment that their installer works for both 32 and 64 bit and that is why they choose program data over files. - SMal.tmcc 11 years ago -
Worst Case fix, if you want it in program files, try doing a manual drag and drop after the install to program files and see if it still works OK. You can always use a move command after the install to put it where you want and create a new shortcut. - SMal.tmcc 11 years ago
You need to find te Custom Action which is diverting the INSTALLDIR and change it.
This happens even if you are running the installation as "Run as administrator " ?
