Application packaging Minor & Full installer

1.I want to release Full installer - 3 GB (Major And base installaion)

2.Then I want release updated file only -400 MB (Minor release)

3.Only minimum fix files -50 MB (Hotfix)

Which way I have to follow..? How to do this in Basic MSI. please share your valuable experience here..

      • The list of repeat posters in the forums we both frequent is long and distinguished. I also don't understand the logic of asking the same question again and again when it would be much more effective to actually do some research on updates and create some test MSIs to understand the process. - EdT 9 years ago
  • If it was me, given the scenario you outline above, I'd be creating 3 separate MSIs.

    BTW, you have no idea how to tag your posts either. This has nothing to do with REpackaging or application virtualisation, or scripting. And FOUR tags for 'InstallShield'?!?!? - anonymous_9363 9 years ago

    • Presumably you mean entries in 'Control Panel/Programs & Features' (a.k.a ARP)?

      So what? Your 'main' MSI could be called, say, "ACME Product X, Base", the next "ACME Product X, Update Dec 2014" and the last "ACME Product X, Hotfix 1, Dec 2014".

      Alternatively, just add the property ARPSYSTEMCOMPONENT to the MSIs you don't want to appear in ARP. - anonymous_9363 9 years ago
  • You really don't know much about MSI technology from what you post. If you research the property ARPSYSTEMCOMPONENT, you can avoid any entry in Add/Remove programs. Then deploy a single uninstaller app as part of your overall install and have the entry in ARP point to the uninstaller. - EdT 9 years ago

    That would allow you to keep your main MSI, add the updates as an MSP, these would appear in the updates section of Add/Remove programs. You also didn't mention the time scale, are you modifying the main base install regularly?? - Badger 9 years ago
