Asset Types - To use the defaults or not use the defaults?

I'm hoping to hear your experiences with Asset Types on the K1000 device.

Our organization is implementing several new internal processes around physical assets - desktops/laptops/tablets/cell phone. Because I've created several logical asset/sub-asset types, I know the combination(s) present some basic challenges in real world use. Like, information in the top level asset always being present in ALL sub-assets.

For the above mentioned asset types, the 'default' asset configuration has a top level of Devices, with each of those physical types listed as Sub-Assets.

1) Have you kept this default configuration? Did it present any real problems for you?

2) Have you created your own top level assets for desktop/laptop/tablet assets? Did it present any real problems for you?

3) Have you done it one way only to find you wished you had used the other method?

Thank you in advanced for you input on this.
