At what point in a Scripted Installation can I remove the bootable disc containing the K2000 Boot Environment?

My organization currently is using the network boot option. I have to use the bootable usb/cd? So my question is at what point of the Scripted Installation (other then the very end) can I remove the bootable usb/cd. I would love to know that for situations where I need to leave while the scripted installation is running and wouldn't want to leave the usb/cd in the computer or situations where I'm doing multiple machines and have only a few kbe bootable usb/cd devices.

Thanks in advance

Answer Summary:
Looks like I have to wait until the installation plan exits the (kbe) to boot the OS for the first time. I removed the usb/cd containing the kbe when the Windows 7 OS began installing, after installing the OS the scripted install returned to the KBE menu and prompted for me to insert the kbe media back into system to continue or to exit (which I know wouldn't be good). I reinserted the media and the scripted installation continued.

  • Sorry to misinform, I do not have that happen, but I have a restart at the end of script, so maybe that is the difference. - SMal.tmcc 11 years ago
  • Should work on them to let you put dhcp on one isolated "test or it" network. We have a network that is only in a few places within the department (any tech who would do imaging). - SMal.tmcc 11 years ago

As soon as you see the kace main menu the disk/ usb can be removed

  • Have you thought about implementing PXE boot? - SMal.tmcc 11 years ago
    • Thanks. Yes, but I can't make those decisions, set it up. Hopefully we'll someday implement it. - bh585 11 years ago
      • how we convinced them was to allow it to enabled but all production machines have a boot order of HDD then NIC. The Kace pxe menu is passworded so even a stupid user cannot accidently reimage a machine. We use two different methods to image. You f12 boot chooose pxe. put in password and choose the image or queue the image for that machine in the k2000 and have a tech boot the machine, choose pxe,put in pw and it takes off imaging

We are testing using the CTTK, We would do a WOL. push a k1000 script to use the CCTK and change the boot order to PXE first, restart the machine, pull the assigned image and as a post task change the boot order back. - SMal.tmcc 11 years ago
  • even before that....after the windows splash screen appers..... - FergieMan 11 years ago
  • I tested this yesterday when he asked thinking the same thing and did not want to give him wrong info. I popped it out while it was loading the splash screen thinking it should be in memory and I got a drive e: not ready error. I would wait till the menu because startnet is done and the HTA file is now being called from the kace 2000 - SMal.tmcc 11 years ago
