bootable USB MDT Deployment for Surface Pro 3.0

Anyone have any advice on how to get it to work.  I know with UEFI it is requires some tricks.  I can't seem to make it work.  Help!

  • It would help if you could provide more information, for example the version of MDT you are using, how you have configured WinPE, have you added the necessary drivers to WinPE, and exactly what you have done so far and what aspect is failing. Otherwise we are left guessing at the direction to send you in. - EdT 9 years ago
  • I imagine islandboy78 is doing the same as me as I cannot for the life of me get USB boot to work with the Surface Pro 3.

I am using MDT 2013 on a Windows 8.1 PC to try and deploy Windows 8.1 Enterprise to Surface Pro 3 devices through USB boot media. I have to do this as we have SCCM2007 on the network already providing PXE.

I have disabled Secure Boot on the Surface Pro 3 but the only thing I can get it to do is boot from CD/DVD media. It seems to ignore all USB media wether I try from within Windows 8.1 (PC Settings, Recovery, Advanced Start up) or via holding the volume button prior to powering on.

The Surface Pro 3's EFI options are a total joke and don't provide enough manageability for enterprise...I sincerely hope Microsoft update it to being more functional with a new firmware release. - Coaxus 9 years ago
