Changing network setting on clinets

I'm new to K1000. I wonder is there are way to change clients network settings (DNS servers in particular) using k1000. Clients are mostly Windows 7. I would like to shut down an old domain controller and all users computers have to point to the new DNS server. We use static IP addresses and I can't do this using the DHCP server.

Thanks you.

Static -  omg... That's sure is asking for leg work.

I would be surprised if there was a K1000 tool for this, as it's...well normally looked after by DHCP.

If there is no K100 approach I would suggest scripting it, and testing the bajeebas out of it, as you don't want to walk around to say hi to all the machines. Would do it in a two phase approach, as you can set two DNS entries, set one to the 'new world' and the secondary to the 'old world'. Kill off the 'old world' and see what issues it causes, fix them, and let things settle. Then after a week or so, update the secondary to the 'new world'.

Put a lot of time and smarts into the script, as this will save you walking around at the end of the day. For example, what happens if the is not called 'Local Area Connection' what do you do then? etc, think of all the issues that will catch you out and mitigate in scripting. I always find doing the work is easy, it's catching the what if's that take up most of the code.

Also log, log log log! So when it goes wrong, suprised if it doesn't, you can debug.

Scripting is the only way to do this using the K1000. As rileyz provide one link, here is another that changes the DNS

Plus this site had tons and tons of scripts you could use and/or Frankenstein together.
