Cost Center

What is the best way to get cost center information into the inventory of Kace so you can run a report and be able to apply the leasing cost to the cost center that is using the equipment?

If you are using Active Directory and computers are in OUs based on the cost center you can setup LDAP labels that will label machines accordingly. Ideally these cost center names would match an asset type that where you can also store the leasing information. A SQL report could be built that would match a system name with its label to the corresponding asset to display the lease information.

You could also just store the lease information in the asset. If you have a spreadsheet that contains lease costs for each machine based on serial number you can import that to the assets module. Those fields are then available when creating a report on the inventory.

  • I had good luck adding a custom field for "Cost Center" inside the computer asset type and did the import. Manual process but when I ran my reports it was easier than using labels (labels didnt always display correctly in the reports) - vwhite 10 years ago
