Custom ISO

I was wondering if anyone has been able to successfully use PartedMagic as a bootable custom ISO with the K2000. If so, how did you do it?

Hi, I was able to boot Parted Magic with memdisk, to a Legacy BIOS machine.. I am using version 6.1 of the KACE Systems Deployments Appliance, here is the KBe\ISO setup.

Check this 30 seconds video:

Make sure your KACE SDA is on version 6.1

What is your DHCP? Mine is a Windows Server 2012 R2, configured after following the PDF attached here:
https://support.quest.com/kace-systems-deployment-appliance/kb/217556/dhcp-configuration-for-bios-and-uefi-pxe

What version of Parted Magic ISO? Mine is  2018_04_30.

Make sure you are booting from a Legacy Source, I couldn't make it work in UEFI.

Use legacy with Memdisk see:

have you tried using the KBEM?

Comments:
  • I have tried this. When I do this, it just boots into the normal KBE environment. - vchhuor 5 years ago
    • then you need to boot from your new KBE manually. - Nico_K 5 years ago
      • That is what I have done. - vchhuor 5 years ago
    • Go to Library > SOurce Media, look for your ISO name, make sure the file size makes sense.

You will need to explain what is going on, because an ISO will simply load whatever is on that ISO, not a KBE environment.

Also you could try enabling "Memdisk", go to Deployments > Boot Environments, your ISO KBE should be there, click on it's name, enable memdisk and save.

Try to use it again - Channeler 5 years ago
      • I went ahead and reuploaded the ISOs and am getting the following result.

        See attached link to picture.

I have tried both with memdisk checked and unchecked and get this error now. - vchhuor 5 years ago
      • Yes I saw your picture, so.. is that a UEFI boot?
If so memdisk will not work.

Try to boot as Legacy mode to see if that helps.

Anyway, it looks like is attempting to load the ISO but is not working...

For example, I have used DBAN
        https://dban.org/

and Hiren's Bood CD, free versions, and a free tool.

They are able to load just fine.

for DBAN I need memdisk, and boot in Legacy because it doens't load in UEFI mode. - Channeler 5 years ago
      • I just tried my laptop back to Legacy and the error I am getting now is http://ipxe.org/err/3c0920

Can't use DBAN as the systems we are trying to wipe have SSDs or Hybrid drives so we are needing to use something with the SATA Secure Erase function. - vchhuor 5 years ago
      • (Error code 3c0920) Operation Not supported that ISO is not compatible with iPXE....

Do they have any other type of ISO?

I recommend you downloading the DBAN and the Hirens Boot CD ISO. (I'm suggesting these two because I have use them before with the KACE iPXE)

        https://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/

Compare their root folders, I bet DBAN and Hiren's boot CD, will have some kind of EFI boot folder or boot files - Channeler 5 years ago
      • I've done this on our WDS box and used the files that PartedMagic provides for PXE and it works great. Has anyone ever been able to customize the syslinux menu for KACE and added the appropriate files for PXE booting?

      • The KACE appliance does not use PXE but iPXE, see

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPXE

Probably the ISO is not compatible with iPXE.

Also the guide on that link, talks about using PXELinux, it may work, but PXELinux was removed from KACE in version 6.0. Try that with memdisk enabled. - Channeler 5 years ago
