Deploying Mircosoft Lync in silent mode

Hello community,
we use Dell Kace 1000 in trial mode to get a feeling for the functionalities. One important thing for us is a silent mode installation on remote hosts.
I have already successfully installed Lync 2013 before using the good old PSEXEC tool but I struggle with Kace here.

I found a youtube video http://youtu.be/H4J42gIUw4s that explains the whole process for the Office product.

So I zipped the whole Lync folders and put setup.exe /adminfile LyncBasicQuiet.MSP in the Kace parameter text box hoping that this would do the trick.

The file gets downloaded to the client but once the file is unzipped the message (alert) box disappears and nothing happens anymore.
If I double-click the setup.exe on the client the setup popup comes up and the setup.exe can be found in the task manager.

What does the setup.exe prevent from starting using Kace? Is UAC a problem? However, on this test client I turned it off. Anti-Virus (McAfee)?

What other options do I have? Can I find/create a log of what is happening?

Thank you very much,
Thorsten

Try using the full paths to setup.exe and the .MSP
Alternatively, try putting the MSP in the upgrades folder and just run setup.exe on its own.

  • I tried that too. No success though. What I noticed is that the setup.exe shows up for a split second in the task manager. Then it's gone again and the runkbot.exe 6 0 finishes. What could prevent this from running? - thoschro 9 years ago

Go it!
This did it for me:
  1. overwrite standard
  2. command line: setup.exe /adminfile updates\LyncBasicQuiet.MSP /config updates\config.xml
  3. don't use msiexec.exe
