I am in the process of packaging up .NET 3.5.  Using 7-Zip I was able to unzip the files and locate the .msi.

If I try to run the .msi, it stops and tells me I must run setup.  So I viewed the properties on the .msi to change the launch conditions to not require "setup" to be run.

I am not able to locate a property to change this requirement.  Have any of you run into this and if so, how did you work around it?

Thanks,
Geoff

You shouldn't need to extract the MSI. The executable includes command line flags for deployment. For a silent install with no restart use /q /norestart. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc160717(v=vs.90).aspx for more details.

  • I second chucksteel, Ive had issues in the past with extracting the msi's and installing, specially with .net 4. Throws up odd .net errors in software that uses it.

I think I found it under "Custom Actions" and was able to delete the row. I am no longer prompted to run setup.

Is it that simple?
