I'm just saying that as it has been removed from download I guess individuals may not have the permission to download it anymore. Even when it was downloadble individuals was not allowed to retransmit the document to others, they had to download it by them selfs.

I don't really care what you do or have done, but just be careful to state in public that you might be breaking some rules telling others to share the document [;)]

The training material is almost a product manual for this sort of stuff. The 4.x documentation is on the thin side plus my favorite doc Enabling Applications for Softgrid was pulled from the partner portal. Hopefully we will be seeing some more detailed documentation soon.

If you are using HTTP / RTSP you will definately have to modify your paths in the console to load the files via that method. Your content path should point to the root folder where your files are stored but you can configure the content path in the console or the server. Configuring the console allows for a more effortless import of applications if you are using UNC paths. The content folder should be configured at install time when building your server. You might have to check the server log to see where your server is trying to load the SFT file from but if you are not seeing the apps at all then your OSDs are not published correctly. The client log will give you a hint as to what might be wrong with your OSDs.

I changed the content pathing to use UNC and now the default application is working. Since I changed this after the installation is it best to uninstall and reinstall vs. adjusting in the various locations? I thought I read somehwere that there are so many hooks on the pathing that its best to reinstall.

Thanks for your help, these seem like simple questions but after reading quite a bit of documentation there seem to be gaps in my understanding. I do have it working though.

I was also curious about sequencing an application that runs off of a SQL DB with user DSN entries. Any caveats?

Who do I ask if the company doesn't exist & I downloaded this from Microsoft's site under the training section back in Oct/Nov 06? I thought it was a public site?

I sought legal advice from my organization & I'm waiting for feedback from Microsoft legal dept, but in the meantime I'm no longer offering the admin guide. From the discussion I had with our legal team, quoting (copying & pasting) paragraphs to explain a particular point/issue/problem would fall under the 'Fair Use' portion of the Copyright Laws, but distributing the entire document without the permission of the owner (which would now be MS) could / would pose a problem.

On a positive note, I hope that the information I've provided has promoted the SoftGrid product. Even though the Admin Guide doesn't contain the answers to everything, it does contain explain more than generic installation information that gets distributed with the software - it's a reference manual.

Thanks AngelD for addressing the issue & opening my eyes to potential legal problems I could face. I could have edited or pulled my offers/the other messages in this thread, but I wanted others to see the whys / what was being discussed here.
