Does anyone use the Kbox Report Wizard?

The wizard looks easy but I never get exactly what I need. Are there any documents that instruct users how to create reports?

thanks,

Take a look at the administrative guide in the support section of the KBOX. You may also want to browse through the knowledgebase.

I hardly ever use the wizard, as it cannot join tables. This means you can only report on data from a single table - which is almost useless in my environment. You must write your own SQL, for instance, if you want to find machines with a specific piece of software installed. However, I believe I remember someone from KACE stating that the wizard will be modified to allow table joins in a future release.

Some of the IT's here that are nott SQL savey, and don't want to learn it use the report wizard. You can at least make some reports with it, like computers with certain software, or what not but not very useful ones. If I remember correctly, like the filters it doesn't give you the option to use ID's, just names. I used it at first then quickly realized how basic it was and switched to SQL.

like computers with certain software

You can't even do that with the wizard since you can't join the MACHINE table to the SOFTWARE table. I believe you can do this to a limited extent, but the software title listed on the report is messed up. It's been a while since I've tinkered with the wizard, but I use SQL for everything. I'd rather learn SQL (which is what I did) than deal with the wizard.

You can. I can't upload a picture of it, but under other there is a software titles... But its useless for us because I have been doing alot of computer/software reports on computers running old versions of software. With the report builder you cant do that if both software have the same name. It wont query version number of software ID (not like you can just edit the sql.

Right, that's it - you cannot check for software details such as version. You can list machines with "X Software" installed, but you can't pull any info related to the title. That's why it's useless to us - we have to make sure the latest version is installed, so we do a lot of reporting on multiple versions of the same software title.

Yes, but the version of MySQL depends upon whether you are running an older 32-bit KBOX or one of the newer 64-bit KBOX's. The 32-bit boxes are still running MySQL 4.x, and the newer 64-bit boxes are running MySQL 5.x. As far as reporting goes, you can use the R1 account to remotely access the database with read-only rights. You can use any reporting mechanism you'd like such as Microsoft Excel (using ODBC), Crystal Reports, etc.
