Does detect leave anything behind that makes changes to client?

We are seeing lots of machines fail during patching lately with this error: https://support.quest.com/kb/326055/error-kacepatch-version-check-failed

Due to our environment, we use Deep Freeze on these machines during daily usage. We keep them locked during detect and then schedule an unlock window for deploy/patching. We haven't had any issues with this setup before but are wondering if the KacePatch.exe referenced in the link above is updated during the detect phase when our machines are locked and then wiped after reboots. Maybe this happened in a recent KACE update.

the detect does some changes on the client (logging mostly) but the most important thin,g, as you also see on the message: It downloads the latest kacepatch-version if needed.
If this is not there when deploying the deployment fails.

  • Thanks! That's exactly the info we needed. - industrial strength 2 years ago
    • Do the systems need to be accessible 24/7? Set and forget method would be to set up a nightly maintenance window and keep the patching activities confined to that... Worte case I suppose you could do something like use data igloo on the kpd directory?(data igloo is a utility for deepfreeze that lets you selectively set directories which will have their data persist even while frozen) - Kiyolaka 2 years ago
