Email alert when an Agent is off

Does anyone know of a way/work around to have an email or notification sent out when an agent is offline.

Our users have their computers on 24/7 and anytime one of them shuts off for any reason, they would like to know.

Thanks!

  • Hi...I came across this on an older post.

  • Unfortunately, this is not what I'm looking for.

Let me try to detail it as a process.

    1. DESKTOP-001 suddenly appears offline in KACE over the weekend.

    2. Email alert is sent to this user from KACE stating that DESKTOP-001 is offline.

    3. Wake-On-LAN is used to turn the computer back on and notify user that the computer is back online.

This is basically the kind of system that I am trying to accomplish. Is this possible? - iseo 4 years ago

You can create a notification task that runs every 15 min minimum to send an email alert

for some reason I cannot post screen shot

under reporting you can setup a device notification schedule task.

in the filter for that you would use device name and agent connected is false and set how often you want the SMA to run the task

  • This may be what I'm looking for!

Is there a way to pair up this notification and a wake-on-lan task together?

So that when this notification is sent, a wake-on-lan is requested from the offline machine.

I see that there is an option for a task chain under distribution, but this does not have the ability to add notifications, just wake-on-lan. - iseo 4 years ago
    • No I would create a static or smart label (depends on the number of machines).
use a filter of the names that need to be up and also device connected status.
Tie that to a wol task that runs every so often. would not be a big hit on the network the smart label would limit the targets.

Also set the Bios on these machines under power management AC recovery to "power on" so they should restart them selves without any external intervention - SMal.tmcc 4 years ago
      • Sounds good.

Thank you for the assistance, much appreciated. - iseo 4 years ago

You can also set the Power Option in the BIOS under AC Recovery to Power On.  If you have Dell Machines this can be done with their BIOS editing tool.  Dell Command / configure tool.  This may be a better option for you.

Go to User Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar and look for Remove and prevent access to the Shut Down, Restart, Sleep, and Hibernate commands.

You can still use remote commands from Kace to shutdon or restart when needed

Comments:
  • Our location sometimes suffer brown outs or power surges that turn off the machines. This is why we would need an alert. I want to get to the point where, if an agent is offline, an alert is sent that a machine is off, then we can wake-on-lan to get it back up and running for users to RDP. Removing the ability to shut down, restart, sleep, and hibernate commands won't solve the issue unfortunately. - iseo 4 years ago
