Systems Management Question

"FTP login credentials failed" when testing offboard backup transfer (but can connect with those credentials from Windows PC)

01/28/2020 247 views

we created a local user on the (Windows) server with the FTP site (via IIS). I can connect from my workstation to the FTP site using that username and password, using a tool like Filezilla.

However when attempting to connect with the same credentials via Kace Offboard, I receive the error "FTP login credentials failed"

  • Hello KevinG.
Offboard backup transfer server = server.domain.com
    User name = server\username

We would need to know the exact syntax used in the fields to further troubleshoot your FTP issue.

You also have the option to use SMB. (Samba Share)  You can create a folder on Windows and share it.

  • Hello KevinG.
Offboard backup transfer server = server.domain.com
    User name = server\username
  • But thanks for the suggestion - I have a Samba share set up successfully (look, alliteration!). The Senior SA had been recommending an FTP connection, so I wasn't looking at Samba at that time.
    • I believe that you will find that SMB is faster, so it's a good choice.
