Has anyone had success with using the KBE and a 6th gen Lenovo X1 Carbon?

I'm writing to see if anyone has success deploying windows via the KBE with the 6th gen X1 Carbon. I am able to boot to the KBE just fine. It pings the appliance, it loads the KBE, my mouse works, my keyboard works, then when I go to deploy a scripted install it fails when it starts to make the partition. I forget the exact error, but it made me run the windows recovery option within the KBE and run diskpart. Disk 0 shows as no media. So I thought it was a driver issue. I re-downloaded WinPE 10, got the latest drivers from Quest. No love. I then loaded the SCCM drivers provided by Lenovo. No love there either. We contacted support and they say it's Lenovo. But I can book to a Win10PE environment and see the drive with Macrium and just a plain instance. Has anyone else seen this? I don't have a problem with my previous gen X1s. It's just these gen 6's.

They do not have a PE pack for this model. Have you tried to place the sccm storage and network portion of the driver pack in the KBE driver directory (\\ikbox\peinst\drivers\kbe_windows_x64), compile a new KBE and then go into settings and make that the default pxe boot?

They do have a PE pack, but I didn't just clear out the drivers folder. So I'm going to try that to see what happens. - mytmouse 4 years ago
Go here and look for the PE10 driver pack matching your exact model:

**I could not find any Gen 6 or 6th Gen in there, for X1 carbon, I would suggest using the model name and not the marketing name of the device**.
Add the network and storage driver matching your model to (\\KACE-IP\peinst\drivers\kbe_windows_x64\), I would make sure that folder is empty first to make it cleaner, but that is not necessary. Recache All Drivers, and Build a new KBE. (Your existing KBEs will not use the new drivers you added.).
Also, if you go to the BIOS, are you able to properly see the HDD details? (Brand, type, capacity). Never discard a hardware issue.
Also make sure the BIOS is up to date.

BIOS shows the SDD info with no issue. They have them, it's the 20KG. I swear that's what we did, but I'll try it again just for giggles. What's weird is if I boot to a regular Win10 PE it sees i just fine. - mytmouse 4 years ago

make sure your \\KACE-IP\peinst\drivers\kbe_windows_x64\ folder is empty first.
Maybe Windows PE is pulling the wrong drivers, I would build a cleaner KBE with just those lenovo drivers, don't forget to recache all drivers first.
Also could you open DISKPART on the KBE.
SEL DISK 0 - Enter
DETAIL DISK - Enter
