How can I clean older, cached installation files?

Hi all,

Our InstallShield created installation is set to 'Cache MSI Locally'.  What we've noticed is that older cache folders are not being cleaned up when an Upgrade is run.  I would have thought that cache folders associated with the older versions of our application would be cleaned up automatically.

Is there a setting I'm missing or is this by design?  If by design, is there a Windows utility that can be used to clean older cached packages?  We tried disk cleanup, but that appears to only find/delete actual Microsoft cached install files.

Our files are placed in the [LocalAppDataFolder]Downloaded Installations area.  Should we maybe use a different location?

Any help appreciated!

Thanks!

  • Will that remove from C:\Windows\Installer by ticking "Windows Installer Cache" instead of the location I have mentioned. If so, I wonder if I should set my cache location to [WindowsFolder]Installer. ?? - Superfreak3 7 years ago
