How do I deploy the Windows Media Player 11 ActiveX control?
All of our workstations are still on WinXP, and all workstations have Windows Media Player 11 installed. Our users will soon be accessing a website full of training videos that use the Windows Media Player 11 ActiveX control to stream the videos. This ActiveX control is not installed on the workstations, and our users do not have Administrator-level access to their workstation, so we're going to have to deploy this WMP 11 ActiveX control to all workstations. I also read somewhere that in order to deploy this through Active Directory, the control has to be packaged in an MSI file. I'm having a heck of a time finding the WMP 11 ActiveX control download, though I did find the WMP 11 download... if the control is buried in there, I'm not finding it. Does anyone know where I can find JUST the ActiveX control download, or show me how to grab it from the full WMP 11 installer? Maybe there's a way to copy the ActiveX control that's already installed on one workstation to all the others? Tnx.

I hadn't seen that list yet. I checked it out, and it has additional codecs and language packs, but nothing referring to the IE plugin.
In other news, I believe I've figured out what happened that the plugin is not already installed. We upgraded to Windows Media Player 11 a few years ago while we were still on IE7. When we upgraded to IE8 earlier this year, the WMP11 plugin may have been dropped/disabled/deleted. Re-installing Windows Media Player 11 re-adds the plugin, and allows the user to "Run" the addon. So the solution for us will be to re-deploy WMP11 to all workstations, which should fix the issue. Thansk for the help! - Xyrx 11 years ago
