How do I recover external hard drive data on macOS?

HFS External Hard Drive simply stopped working one day and no longer mounts on my macOS Sierra. Being a Mac user, the drive also does not show any longer in Disk Utility. Was able to scan with Easeus Mac Data Recovery a few weeks back, though, which revealed 150 GB lost volumes on the drive, all of which are identical in size. Is there any other solution to solve this problem?

  • You can try TestDisk http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk.

Make an image of the external drive with DD and run TestDisk on the .bin file.

Otherwise, take the drive to professional services, who may be able to recover the data for a fee. - flip1001 7 years ago
