How to check if BITS is working?

Hi Everyone,

I have a little problem with my Distribution Point; I have a Package with 10GB of size and the bandwith between the Primary Site to DP is 5MBps only. The network connection going to DP Site is unstable, we have intermittent and high latency most of the time.

I have noticed that everytime the network connection cuts off, the distribution will fail. Once the connection has been restored again, the Distribution Point Server will "REFRESH (delete all the existing data on that specific package then copy again)" the package. Is that a normal behaviour of SCCM when distributing package?

Thanks!

I'm no SCCM expert but, according to the link below BITS is not used between Site servers and DPs. This would also explain the behavior you experience.

  • Hi henrik80, based on this articles note...
"BITS is never used to transfer content from the site server to the distribution point. The site server always uses SMB to copy packages to distribution points and does not use any throttling or fault tolerance."

This means that even i have BITS enabled DP, the replication of my Packages from Primary Site going to DP's would still use SMB protocol.. How sad.. :( - wancho 11 years ago
  • by the way, thanks for the link it is also helpful. however, I am still being challenged on how to replicate my 10GB package to 5Mbps unstable bandwidth DP... :( - wancho 11 years ago
