Install VLC unattended, but not as default media player

Hi,

I want to do a silent, unattended installation of VLC player. So I run the setup program with the "/S"-switch, which works fine.

The problem is I do NOT want VLC to become the default media player in Windows. In other words, I want to keep Windows Media Player as the default media player.

Does anyone know how to accomplish this?

It appears that VLC builds an MSI with each release. Their main download link, if you copy it to clipboard, then just browse to the directory, you should be able to find the latest MSI. For example:

64-bit MSI available here:

https://get.videolan.org/vlc/3.0.2/win64/

32-bit MSI available here:

https://get.videolan.org/vlc/3.0.2/win32/

We do it by creating a snapshot msi with adminstudio and unchecking the File type association tick box in the custom setup.

Hi , yes you can repackage the application and completely configure the application to your needs. Then make a MSI  (or virtual Application) with AdminStudio.
