Installing Kace Secure Browser

I've seen screen shots of the install that are a little confusing - there are two buttons, one for Secure Browser and the other Firefox. Why is that? Does the install need to be run twice? Which button should be selected? For more information see this thread at the wilders security forum:

Thanks!

We will actually be taking this out, the buttons for the Secure Browser and Firefox are to switch between the two end user license agreements. There is just a single Windows Installer installation and this is just so you can see both EULAs to which you are agreeing. As it turns out, the license for Firefox is now presented after installation and need not be part of the installer as is typically the case. Our next release of the Secure Browser will remove this.

Thanks for the explanation about the license agreements. Another question some users have had is with regard to the size of the installer. When the announcement was made that Secure Browser was available the size was listed as 10 megs. Is the installer 73 megs because it includes Acrobat Reader and Flash...?

[:)] I spent a long time installing, uninstalling and re-installing Dell Kace browser today. It would install flawlessly but when I clicked on the Secure Browser Firefox icon, nothing ever happened. I even disabled both my firewall and antivirus and the same problem: no response when clicking Kace Browser's icon.

Finally, it dawn on me to completely uninstall my previously installed "normal" Firefox browser and clean up any left over files. I also uninstalled the Dell Kace Browser. Rebooted. Installed Dell Kace Browser once again and Voila, it worked!!!!!

I am running Windows XP SP3 Home Premium edition. I gather that there must be some kind of conflict if one has Firefox previously installed when trying to install Dell Kace Browser.

victek,

Yes the size is due to the inclusion of Reader and Flash along with Firefox and our virtualization wrapper. I noted that at least one publication reported the size as 10mb but I'm afraid that was an error. I'd love for it to be so small but it just isn't possible with all we've got packed in here.

LS22153,

Thanks for the details on this we will try to reproduce your situation here. Are there any other details about things you might have installed or configured that may be helpful in reproducing what you are seeing?

bkelly and LS22153,

I had the same problem with the Secure browser icon doing nothing after clicking on it. It installed just fine by the way. It finally did prompt me that a script was busy running and that prevented the app from opening. It gave me the option to continue to try to run the script or stop the script. I stopped the script and secure browser opened just fine and it looks like things are running just fine. I have the first beta of firefox version 4 installed. Not sure if that interfered.

Hi All,
I had a similar problem - after installation firefox.exe would start then die. No errors. After a bit of fiddling I started the secure firefox with the -ProfileManager option, created a new profile for it to use then from that time on it was fine and plays nicely with my regular firefox install.

Dont know if it borks any of the security features, though... thoughts?

if it doesnt, maybe the solution is to have a first run after install create a new profile just for secure firefox

Cheers,
Michael.

I can't get it to work either. Installed without a hitch but won't launch. I rebooted several times to no avail. I finally removed the program.

I am running a Dell Dimension 3000 with Windows XP Pro Version 2002 SP3

Michael,

Maybe you are on to something here, can you describe how you specified the ProfileManager option?

Thanks!

I have adifferent problem. The browser installs perfectly -- icon says "secure Browser" except that when I click on it I get standard Firefox.
I am sure that I clicked on the install button for Secure and not just Firefox.

So do I need to uninstall my Firefox before installing Secure Browser from KACE?

No you should not have to uninstall any standard installation of Firefox first-- as a "virtual" installation it should not conflict with anything you currently have installed.

Note that it can look like you are running a standard installation and not the Secure Browser if you run it maximized (or full screen). Be sure to shrink the application window to expose the UI that surrounds the standard application window. It might also be hard to notice if you are running at such a resolution where the application windows is right at the top of the display, in this case just drag it down an inch and you should see the Secure Browser controls.

Also getting the standard browser after install in Win7. There is no background with ashcan and menu as shown in your demo--with and without Aero. As test ran normal Firefox from its shortcut at "\program files\mozilla firefox" and added a favorite. Ran Secure Browser from its shortcut at "\program files\dell kase" and find exactly the same shortcuts, including the new one. Also can not open a new instance of normal Firefox with Secure Browser running.
