inventory.xml cannot be written to

I have a mystery. A Mac Pro running Catalina. All seems well with it, accept, the kace agent cannot write anything to the inventory.xml file.

There isn't anything much different on this mac than many others that do not have this problem.

I've completely uninstalled and reinstalled the agent and deleted the records from the SMA, but nothing seems to work.

A couple times I noticed after a few troubleshooting reinstalls, Kstatus did show that the agent wasn't running, but after an agent restart, it then keeps running, after reboots as well.

"runkbot 2 0" just can't seem to write to the inventory.xml. I have deleted the inventory.xml file as well and watched runkbot create it, but it still cannot write anything to it.

Inventory.xml has identical permissions as do all other installations that work fine.

This Mac does show up in the new Quarantine section with 'all' or 'approved' as the view. Just not the Inventory section since the agent cannot write any data to the inventory.xml file for some bizarre reason.

The Mac has all of its patches, it is one of about ten other similar build machines that are all checking in and updating their inventory.xml files just fine.

I've run the disk first aid to correct any file permission issues, there were none found.

I've attempted by disabling end point security on this particular Mac, still nothing.

We are still under our license count for managed computers.

Searching the log with the kuid for this machine i see this error:

10.1.3.211 - BAD_MAC_IP ignored HandlePUT(BAD_MAC_IP=10.1.3.211&filename=KBOT_LOG.txt&mac=80f99f17-66b2-4970-a75f-72a28fc82124&kbotId=2&)

...but the all my Googling seems to only bring up this error on Windows computers not Macs.

Anyway, if anyone has any ideas they'd be much appriciated.

Thanks!

The KACE SMA Agent does not need to be connected to the KACE SMA to be able to generate an inventory.xml file.

What are the KACE SMA server and Agent versions you're currently using?

That error comes from the KACE SMA, it doesn't know what to do with the payload provided by 10.1.3.211, because inventory.xml is missing or blank. This could happen to any OS, Windows, Linux, MAC.... etc etc
