Is it possible to kill a patch schedule in the middle of a run?

We've had a patch schedule that was accidentally run on our servers which is causing them to reboot multiple times.

We killed the K1000 and changed the IP of it so that we could bring it up and not having it causing issues.

Is there a way to kill a patch schedule in the middle of a run?

We disabled all of the schedules we have, set the IP correctly, and still when the K1000 came back up it started rebooting servers again.

 

Any thoughts?

  • never tried it with patches, but I have killed stuck scripts in a this way before.
    On one of the stuck servers go to C:\ProgramData\Dell\KACE and rename patches to patches.old. - SMal.tmcc 10 years ago

  • I believe I've found how through an old post of JKnox.
    Unser Settings, Support, Troubleshooting Tools, Agent tasks you can delete all the patching tasks or any other running/waiting tasks.
    Still going to wait til after hours to see if it worked though. - AFCUjstrick 10 years ago
    • You should also disable the specific patch job or I believe it could run again on the next agent check in depending on how it's configured. - jknox 10 years ago

  • The task-kill-way is the only one you should go. It helps if the agent has been stopped too, so both sides of the communication are intercepted :) - Nico_K 10 years ago

Ah - this reminds me of that time when I accidentally ran a patch schedule on ALL our machines in the middle of the work day (***Family Guy cut to me banging my head repeatedly on my desk as our Helpdesk line rings off the hook***).

I believe you can kill the kpatch process on the machines in question...
