Issue when Deploying a Windows 7 Image

Hi All,

I have been having an issue with deploying our Windows 7 X64 base image to this specific computer. 

The Computer is a Dell Precision Desktop T7610.  This computer uses an LSI Raid Controller.

For our image process we use SCCM 2012 R2 OS Task Sequence. 

I have added the raid controller drivers to the boot image, and I have injected the raid controller drivers the Windows 7 wim. 

When I run through the task sequence after the first reboot the computer goes to the windows screen then BSOD right before the windows minisetup is suppose to run. 

I have tried to run through the process and disabling the drivers package, same results. 

However if I deploy the image to the computer with Imagex, it succeeds. 

 

Any help would be appretiated.

  • When you deploy with imagex, are there any other tasks you perform before the first reboot? How does this compare with a deployed image? Also, when booting post-imagex, does the operating system come up with the raid drivers operating- have you checked in device manager? It would be worth reviewing whether just one driver is required for RAID support, or two drivers. Some situations require a base driver to provide SATA support to the hard disks and then a RAID driver to support an array. Is this hardware or software RAID? - EdT 9 years ago

      Thank you for your response. When deploying with imagex, computer reboots and goes through windows mini setup to install drivers. Then Operating system comes up.
      In the SCCM Task Sequence the only steps I have are format disk, apply image, apply network settings, reboot.
      I have taken out all of the other steps.
      This is a hardware raid.
      During the task sequence, the computer reboots then right before the windows mini setup, it blue screens. Error 0X000000f4 - ahmad 9 years ago
  • My understanding is that mini setup creates the machine identity and only runs once the operating system has booted and the plug and play subsystem has loaded all the drivers. What I would suggest trying via SCCM is an exact duplicate of what you are doing manually when you run imagex. If you are not formatting the disk when running imagex then disable this in SCCM as well.
    I would also note down the exact and complete error and google on it for additional clues as to what to look for.
    Finally, windows 7 consists of two partitions - both are required for the system to boot correctly. - EdT 9 years ago

      • Ok so I fixed the issue. Had to create a 64 bit winpe. Ran the 64 bit task sequence and it completed successfully. - ahmad 9 years ago
